Epic Games Co-founder: Xbox Silence at GDC 2013 “More Perception Than Reality”

At GDC 2013 especially, Microsoft was chastised for its “continued silence” in the face of so many reveals and demos for the PlayStation 4.

On their so-called “silence”, Epic Games co-founder Mark Rein has a different take. “I think that’s more perception than reality.

“Microsoft has always been very developer centric with all of their platforms and that Sony is embracing that approach is wonderful. But I don’t think it diminishes what Microsoft is doing.

“I don’t think with developer relations anyone is trying to be public, it’s just you’re at GDC and Sony has the hardware to talk about, and Microsoft hasn’t talked about it publicly yet.

YetiZen explains hiring of gamer models, not dancers, for its GDC party

After getting flack for hiring female dancers at a party who offended some leaders in the game industry, YetiZen chief executive Sana Choudary posted a response today explaining the organization’s perspective and clarifying facts about the party itself.

The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) received criticism for being a co-sponsor of the party, and prominent game designer Brenda Romero resigned from the group in response because the event featured scantily clad women. The party and the reaction to it show that women’s issues are coming into sharper focus more than ever before in the game industry.

Celebrate StarCraft's 15th birthday with retro portraits for SC2

StarCraft turns 15 today and, to celebrate the big day, Blizzard will hand out special retro portraits to StarCraft II players. The three classic icons will be unlocked for anyone who earns the 15th anniversary Feat of Strength achievement, simply by finishing one single game online from todayup until 11:59pm PDT on April 17, Blizzard explains in a blog post.

Battlefield 4 was running at 3k Resolution at 60 fps

We finally have the reason why Battlefield 4 looked so crispy and almost like a CG video. The demo showcased during the official reveal featured 17 minutes of gameplay and the graphics were simply out of this world.

DICE’s Patrick Bach has revealed the reason for the visual fidelity. It was apparently running at 3k resolution.

“It was a decent PC, yes. But you can still buy it, so it’s not like alien technology or anything,” he said to CVG. “It’s still a PC that you can buy and it’s still unoptimised code. Another thing that you might not have realised is that we ran it at 3K resolution at 60fps, and you don’t do that. Nobody talked about pixels because at that size you couldn’t see them.”
